The Far North Partly Operative

District Plan Information

Far North District Council has prepared a District Plan under the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA).

The Proposed District Plan was publicly notified in April 2000 and submissions and further submissions were called for.  The Council subsequently received over 5900 submissions and further submissions.  Decisions on submissions were released on 10 July 2003 and Council then released the “Revised Proposed District Plan” which incorporated amendments made as a result of those decisions.

Following release of Council decisions on submissions 93 appeals were lodged with the Environment Court covering over 800 matters.  All but one of those appeals have now been dealt with, the outstanding appeal being:

• K. & S. Taylor - zoning of land between Okura River and Waitangi Wetland, north of Inlet Road, Kerikeri.

At its meeting of 27 September 2007, the Far North District Council resolved to declare the Far North District Plan operative in part pursuant to clause 17(2) of the First Schedule of the RMA from 12 October 2007.  The “Partly Operative” version of the Far North District Plan, with the Council seal affixed, incorporates all RMA clause 16 amendments approved by Council and all amendments made to the Plan as a result of variations and Environment Court consent orders and directions (up to 27 September 2007).

The properties affected by the above appeal have been marked with cross-hatching and a note included in the legend on the relevant maps.  If you are using the District Plan and are within an area that is subject to appeal then you should contact the Duty Planner at Council.

All previous District planning instruments including the Revised Proposed District Plan and the Transitional District Plans are no longer in effect except in relation to the areas and provisions which are the subject of the appeal by K. & S. Taylor listed above.

Copies of the Partly Operative Far North District Plan (October 2007) are available for perusal at Council's Service Centres and Libraries or in electronic format.

Obtaining a copy

The Partly Operative District Plan is prepared in three parts.  The set consists of two books, one of provisions and one of District Plan maps.  

The Partly Operative District Plan is available in electronic format (.pdf adobe acrobat) section by section.  As the entire document is in excess of 30 Megabytes, comprising over 100 maps, this is suitable if you don't wish to purchase the entire document and are looking for information on a specific area. The Plan is also available on CD Rom.

Alternatively, you can order a copy from the Council at any of the Council Service Centres , fill in an order electronically and send payment by post with your details and along with the order form and the Plan will be sent to you with a receipt.  Pricing for the separate books are given below.
