Storm Surge
Damages Tapeka Ramp
|
The Tapeka Point boat
ramp has been another victim of last weekend's heavy rain and coastal
storm surges.
The ramp was extensively damaged and has been closed to public use until
further notice.
General Manager for District Services Alastair Wells said today an engineering
assessment of the damage had been commissioned.
"As soon as we have more technical information available, a decision
will be made on a way forward. Our first option would be to repair and
restore the facility for public use as quickly as possible, but this
is dependent on the outcome of the engineering investigations and whether
this option is going to be cost-effective in the longer term,"
he said.
As a temporary measure, boat owners normally launching at Tapeka Point
are advised to use the ramp facilities at Russell as an alternative
