TITLE:

Kawakawa Pool Temporarily Closed for Maintenance

The heated public swimming pool at the ASB Recreation Centre at the Bay of Islands College at Kawakawa has been closed temporarily for essential filtration repairs.

Far North District Council Recreation Manager Vaughan Cruickshank said today contractors were working on the problem and it was anticipated the emergency maintenance work would be completed within a few days.

"The filtration problem has arisen at an unfortunate time with schools currently on holiday. Because it involves the filtration system, there has been no alternative but to temporarily close the pool," he said.

Every effort was being made to get the pool operational again as quickly as possible.

30 April 2008 - Update to media release:

The heated swimming pool at the ASB recreation centre at the Bay of Islands College at Kawakawa will be closed for longer than we had hoped because of the need to replace more of the filtration system and the time it takes to refill and re-heat the pool.

We are taking the opportunity to carry out other maintenance work and give the entire pool complex a spring clean while it is closed for repairs.

Pool water quality will be noticeably improved when the pool re-opens next Friday, at the earliest.

We can only apologise to pool users, especially school children wanting to swim during the last days of their school holidays, but can reassure them that the improvements being made will make for a better swimming experience once the pool re-opens.
