Good Progress
on Mangonui Waterfront Project |
Good progress is being
made on changes to the design of the Mangonui Waterfront project to
meet community aspirations.
Work to change the seaward aspect of the reclamation area at the south
end from a concrete slab to a rock face has now been substantially completed.
Contractors are now working on lowering the camber on the existing concrete
platform on the seaward side.
The next step is to complete finishing work at the reclamation area
and install the timber boardwalk.
Once this work has been completed, the intention is to review the overall
appearance before final decisions are made on other aspects of remedial
work suggested by the local community. This includes how a lower level
boardwalk might be incorporated if it is going to be necessary and whether
the safety fence along the seawall should be changed or removed entirely.
If after the review a lower boardwalk is required, a new Resource Consent
will be needed.
