Drop-In Days on the Kerikeri Heritage Bypass Project |
The community will have a
further opportunity to learn more about the Kerikeri Heritage Bypass
and the positive impact on the Stone Store Basin at two open public
Information Days.
The drop-in days have been scheduled for Sunday 15th June and Monday
16th June 2008 and will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on each day.
Venue for the public forum will be the historic buildings in the Basin
- Kemp House and the Stone Store. Entry to the buildings will be free
during the event.
Representatives from the Far North District Council, NZ Historic Places
Trust and the Department of Conservation will be in attendance to answer
questions, explain the static displays and the significance of the bypass
for the Basin area, and provide an overview of the final stages of the
bypass project.
The construction programme will move to the Stone Store Basin area for
the final stages of the $17 million project following the opening to
traffic of the 1.6 kilometre Heritage Bypass route on 23rd June 2008.
Work programmed will include the demolition of the existing bridge at
the Stone Store, construction of an adventure ford adjoining the existing
bridge, construction of permanent cul-de-sacs on each side of the Kerikeri
River to enable traffic to turn around, and construction of a pedestrian
bridge about 70 metres upstream from the existing bridge.
