Cemeteries

Cemeteries across the Far North District provide a valuable insight into the Far North’s history, with burials dating back to the late 1800’s.

The grounds are peaceful and interesting places to visit, where family and friends can visit their loved ones, walk around and become a part of times long passed. Take time to admire both simple and ornate memorials where heartwarming inscriptions, poetry and even humor adorn the gravestones.

Our cemeteries are open to the public every day of the year. Opening times are 6am to 8pm during the summer and from 6am to 6pm during the winter.

If you are a Geneology/Whakapapa researcher, you will appreciate our Online Cemetery Record Search where you can use the search options to find cemetery records by family names and locate information such as a list of all members of that family, their date of death, plot number and cemetery. The database also provides links to the relevant location and plot layout maps.
