Go to TopWanting to place a headstoneOnce you have located the correct plot (refer to Online Cemetery Record Search), the family can contact any stone mason and erect a headstone. There is no need to advise us of this, as the plot belongs to the family. In the case of RSA Cemeteries, refer caller to Internal Affairs Department, only they can erect a headstone in the RSA Section of the Cemeteries. Go to TopReserving a burial plotOften families like to be able to reserve a plot for family members so that they can be next to each other. To reserve a plot, you will need to contact either the Council, or the appropriate cemetery committee, depending upon the location. If you would like to reserve a plot in a council operated cemetery, please contact us using our normal contact details. You'll need to let us know the following information:

Go to topBurials at seaMaritime Safety, Wellington state that designated areas where burials can take place at sea are all deep water areas, restricted, non-fishing, non-anchoring, reserved for submarine training, where explosives have been dumped or are in close proximity to either underwater power or telephone cables. There is only one designated area in Northland for burials at sea - this is located off Tutukaka. Only boats that are registered can be used and must go to the outer limits of the area and cannot anchor - only drift. To check the availability of an area contact Maritime Safety Auckland on 09 307 1370. There is no restriction on the scattering of ashes at sea. Go to topBurials on privately owned landNo one can be buried within 32 kilometres of the nearest cemetery or burial ground of the place where the death occurred or the place where the body is taken for the purpose of burial. Special permission can be granted but only by the Minister of Health, to bury persons in privately owned land.
