    Due to ongoing drought conditions, the water supply in Kaitaia is no longer sufficient to provide for unrestricted water use. A Water Shortage Direction has been issued by the Northland Regional Council which means that with immediate effect, the supply available to the Kaitaia community is restricted to a maximum of 2600m3 per day.
