Ahipara’s “Christmas in the Park”
20 November 2009
Move over Auckland – Ahipara’s having its own “Christmas in the Park” this year and it's shaping-up to be a great community event.
The celebrations will be on Sunday December 13 at the Far North District Council’s reserve off Korora Street, which will be closed to vehicle traffic, except emergency vehicles, from 2pm to 9m on the day.
A community concert featuring DJs, local bands and other musicians, kapa haka groups, a young entertainers segment and dance groups - including New Zealand hip hop dance crew champions Kapeesh – will run through from 6pm to 9pm.
Also scheduled on the reserve are a food fair from 4pm to 8pm and an under 5s movement programme and family volleyball activities from 4pm to 6pm, coordinated by Sport Northland.
A beach soccer tournament and a Kio-Rahi tournament will be held from 3pm to 6pm on the beach next to the reserve.
There’ll be glow sticks, glow rings and all the other things that go with an event such as on-site portaloos, a Police presence and a community security team which will marshal on the day.
