‘Tis the Season to be Jolly
6 November 2009
Kaikohe and districts senior citizens will have every reason for thinking all their Christmases have come at once when Far North Deputy Mayor Sally Macauley hosts an afternoon of Christmas treats and entertainment next month.
The afternoon’s free festivities start at 1.30pm on Thursday December 10 in the Kaikohe War Memorial Hall and the invitation is open to all senior citizens in the Kaikohe, Okaihau and Hokianga districts.
“I want to recognise the contribution our senior citizens make to the community and this seems a very good way to do it,” Mrs Macauley said. “It’s a means of saying thank you for the valuable contribution they make to our everyday lives.
“We are richer for their experience and knowledge and sometimes it’s nice just to acknowledge how much they have done for so many over the years.”
With sponsorship from the Western Community Board, the afternoon will feature a slap-up Christmas afternoon tea and entertainment including ballet, kapa haka, Christmas carols around the piano and country and western line dancers.
“It will be great fun and I am looking forward to seeing a lot of familiar faces on the day,” Mrs Macauley said. “The intention is to make a happy start to the Christmas-New Year season so I hope we’ll have lots of people coming along for the afternoon.”
