Welcome to the Future Plan!

Welcome to the Far North District Council’s Long Term Council Community Plan (LTCCP) for 2006/2016 – the Far North Future Plan.

This plan is probably the most important document the Council produces, as it sets out key aims, objectives and priorities for the Far North, as the Council sees them, for the next ten years. It also informs the community how Council is working to align its activities with what the district needs and can afford.

A lot of work goes into developing this comprehensive document. The journey started in 2004 when Council produced its first LTCCP. It then developed the important themes and priorities into its Annual Plan - Recipes for Success. This early work has helped to develop a format for future plans which seems to work well and is popular with the local community.

At key stages in the journey so far, the Council has asked you what you think about its plans and proposals and has been delighted with the amount of feedback received. Submissions on the draft Future Plan reached record levels and provided much valuable feedback, which Council has used in its Annual Plans since 2006.

The current Far North Future Plan 2006/2016 has been produced in a Summary plus four volumes as follows. These volumes can be viewed in sections here on our website or a full copy of the plan is available for viewing at each of our Council Service Centres and Libraries.

some of the important influences on the future of the district, such as growth and development projections
issues and priorities as they relate to key sections of our community – Maori, young people and the business community
a detailed overview of community outcomes for our district and region – the issues you as a community have told us are important to you

This volume details council activities, key facts and figures about what Council does, current issues, challenges, priorities and key projects for the future. You will also find here:

expenditure and revenue projections for Council’s main areas of activity over the next ten years
performance targets that will help you to judge how Council is doing
information about Far North Holdings Ltd - the Council Controlled Organisation responsible for the ownership and management of a number of key infrastructure assets, including airports and maritime facilities
