Auction of Impounded Stock

Council Impounds wandering stock found on the district roads that are not under control. The Impounding Act 1955 states - If Stock is not recovered by their rightful owner, and all appropriate fees are not paid in the prescribed time, Council may auction off the stock to recover all costs incurred with the Impounding process. To do this, Council advertises the Auction date and details in the local newspaper (Northland Age and Northern News), detailing date and venue of the auction. Generally the auctions are held at either of Council’s stock pounds, at Pakaraka, or Kaitaia.
