September 2008

7 September - NZ Trio - Beyond the Pale

Come and hitch a ride on the renowned trio’s engaging journey into musical extremes! The world-premiere performance of Phil Dadson's latest work features in this Kerikeri concert, at the launch of their New Zealand tour “Beyond the Pale”. Experimental and compelling, the Dadson work involves elements of improvisation and exploration, employing invented instruments as well as those of the trio, to create uniquely colourful and dynamic sounds.

In typical NZTrio fashion, this is inventively juxtaposed with the charming Beethoven Piano Trio in E flat that opens the programme. Audiences then find themselves transported across the Tasman with Ross Edwards’s Piano Trio, brim-full of swinging dance rhythms. The concert will finish on a luscious note with the rich colour world of the Brahms C minor Piano Trio.

(Kerikeri is hosting the premiere because of its association with NZ’s most prestigious piano competition, the Kerikeri National Piano Competition.)
