Holding special events in parks

Camping in a park

Camping is not permitted in Far North Districts Council parks. Customer should contact the Information Centre or a local camping ground.    If customer wishes to report someone camping in a park - handover to Reserves Policy Manager.

Sports played in parks

All sports (apart from golf or paintball) are allowed to be played in park areas except where a sign has been put up on that park prohibiting ball sports.  If you consider that people playing sports are disorderly or dangerous and you wish to complain, please contact the council using our normal contact details.

Golf and paintball games are not allowed in parks for obvious safety reasons.  Vehicle riding and horse riding are also not permitted in Council parks.

Skateboard ramps and BMX ramps

There are skateboard ramps in the following parks:

  • Centennial Park, Kaitaia 
  • Memorial Park, Kaikohe 
  • Kerikeri Domain, Kerikeri

Can I take my own BBQ to the park?

The public may only take gas BBQs onto a park. No wood fired BBQs are allowed.

Use of Parks for access to private property

If customer is requesting to use a park to gain temporary access to a property to fell trees, lay pipes etc, the customer needs to request access in writing by sending a letter to Reserves Policy Manager including the following information:

  • Why they need access?
  • When the work will be done?
  • What access to park will be used?
  • What type of work is being done?
