For security reasons we do not recommend that you email your credit card details to us. Go to TopDirect DebitsDirect debits are the preferred payment option for rate and water accounts. The Council's computer system automatically calculates the amount to be paid (variable amount) and deducts it from your bank account. You may nominate your own fixed amount that can be deducted, but this must be at a rate that keeps the account up to date and paid in full by penalty date, otherwise, a penalty will be incurred. The application form for Direct Debits must be returned to council for processing with an original signature and with the conditions attached. If you need to cancel or amend a direct debit please contact our Customer Service staff using our normal contact details. Automatic payments mean that a certain amount of money is transferred from your bank account to your rate or water account on set dates. You have the authority to cancel your automatic payments at any time. Payments must be at a rate that keeps your account up to date and paid in full by penalty date, otherwise, a penalty will be incurred. You will need to set up a separate payee item for each rate or water account, as the telephone banking service will not split a single payment up between the various accounts. If you would like to verify whether a payment has been received by council, allow a day or so after the payment date for the payment to be processed and then contact our Customer Service staff using our normal contact details. Go to TopWhat is the difference between a Direct Debit and an Automatic Payment?The main difference between paying by automatic payment and direct debit is that the amount taken from your bank account when paying by automatic payment is controlled by you, whereas when paying by direct debit the Council nominates the amount that will be taken. You are advised of the amount prior to the payment being taken from their bank account. Bank charges between the two options also vary. Generally a Direct Debit is free although it usually attracts a transaction charge, whereas Automatic Payments usually attract a fee and a transaction charge.
