Cemetery Maintenance

All cemeteries in the Far North District are maintained either by the Far North District Council or a Community Committee (unfortunately we do not have a list or contact for all Community run cemeteries throughout the Far North District).

Clarification
Beams are the concrete strips laid for headstones, plaques etc and Ash Berms are the grass patches that are allocated to the corresponding Beams.

For more information on burials please contact us.

Wanting to place a headstone

Once you have located the correct plot you can contact any stone mason and erect a headstone. There is no need to advise us of this, as the plot belongs to the your family. In the case of RSA Cemeteries, please call the Internal Affairs Department, only they can erect a headstone in the RSA Section of the Cemeteries.

Cemetery location maps and plot layouts

Please click on the name of the required cemetery location to open the associated maps and plot layouts. We have provided the maps and plot layouts in A4 size PDF format so that they can be opened and printed at home.

NB. There may be some cemetery areas not included in these plans. We are in the process of auditing our maps and plot layouts and these will be updated as they are completed. In the meantime we also apologise for the poor quality of some of the maps, they have had to be scanned from old hard copies and will soon be replaced.

For more information on cemetery locations please contact us.

Genealogy / Whakapapa Searches

Geneology/Whakapapa researchers will appreciate our Online Cemetery Record Search where you can use the search options to find cemetery records by family names and locate information such as a list of all members of that family, their date of death, plot number and cemetery. The database also provides links to the relevant location and plot layout maps.
