Fish, Shellfish and Eels

Removal of shellfish from the beach

The Ministry of Fisheries controls the number of shellfish that are permitted to be taken at any one time. Complaints regarding removal of shellfish from this area should be referred to the Ministry of Fisheries at www.fish.govt.nz

Number of eels allowed to be taken without a licence

The Ministry of Fisheries regulate the removal of eels from streams. Refer to the Ministry of Fisheries at www.fish.govt.nz for further information.

Dead fish or Eels noticed

If dead fish or eels are noticed please refer customer to Northland Regional Council at www.nrc.govt.nz

Cats

Keeping of Cats - numbers

Under Council's general bylaws (chapter 13), no more than 5 cats or kittens over the age of 3 months may be kept on any property zoned residential, commercial or industrial, without the written approval of the Council.

In all cases, if Council considers the keeping of cats to be the likely cause of a nuisance, or a danger to health or wildlife, then the owner may be asked to remove those cats or kittens.
