Direct Debit Payments
Direct Debit payments can be set up to pay accounts weekly, fortnightly or monthly - or quarterly for rates or six monthly for water rates.
Direct Debits can be set up with either a fixed amount (the customer can choose the amount) or a variable amount which will automatically be calculated to clear the rates on the account by the 30th June each year or the amount due for water rates.
The Advantages are:
- No bank fees to set up the direct debit and (with most banks) no future transaction fees
- Notification will be sent out about the state of debtors accounts monthly, rate accounts every three months, and water accounts ever six months
- Variable Direct Debit amounts are reviewed at each instalment for rates and a schedule of payments is included on the instalment invoice
A Direct Debit form can be accessed by:

Fill in the Direct Debit form and return to council by mail:

Automatic Payments
Automatic Payments are set up at the bank with the amount and dates requested on the Automatic Payment application form.
Please Note:
- If rates instalments are not paid in full by the due date a penalty will be charged unless there is a Rates Easy Pay Arrangement made with Council
- The bank may charge a fee to set up an Automatic Payment and charge a transaction fee for each payment

The Automatic Payment will be loaded into Councils system and then forwarded to the customers bank to be set up at the bank.
Rates Easy Pay Direct Agreements
This is a flexible options that has been developed to help customers pay rates by weekly, fortnightly or monthly payments and not have penalties charged.
A payment schedule can be calculated so that rates are paid by the 30th of June (the end of the rating year) OR up to a two year period if the account is in arrears and a payment agreement is made with council.
Rates Easy Pay Direct Agreements can only be initiated if payments are made by;

These payments must be agreed to by council.
To arrange a Rates Easy Pay Direct Agreement contact council for an application pack and freepost return envelope.
Fill in either the Direct Debit or Automatic Payment form and return to council.

On Line Credit Card E-Payments (Rates and Water accounts only)
Payments can be made by Credit Card, using either Visa or Master Card through Eftpos New Zealand Limited (on the Internet) by:
- Clinking this link to the e-payments portal - Going online to make the payment
- Phoning council on 0800 920 029 and have one of the staff to process the online payment
Please Note:
Eftpos New Zealand Limited charge a service fee of 2.1% of the payment amount (minimum fee of $3.00 applies) when a payment is made using their online service
Far North District Council does not receive any part of the online service fee
The 2.1% fee is not charged if payment is made in person at one of councils service centres.

Telephone Banking and Bill Payments
Payments can be made through telephone banking or on the Internet through the customers banks.
To make a payment by Telephone Banking
Contact your bank directly to set up Far North District Council as a bill payee on your telephone banking account and use Far North District Councils account number as the reference ( i.e. if paying rates use the RTZ account number as the reference)
To make payments by Internet Bill Payment
Go online to your banking website and set up Far North District Council as a bill payee on your account. Use your Far North District Council account number as the reference.
The account reference number required is:
- For Rates and Water use all eight digits of the account number following the RTZ or RA on the invoice (leaving out any hyphen, slash or space)
- For dog registrations and parking infringements, use the registration or infringement number.
- For all other accounts, please use the customer number provided on the statement
Please Note:
Separate Bill Payee's must be set up for each separate account with Far North District Council ( i.e. if you have a Rates account RTZ and a Water account RA, two separate Bill Payee's will be required so that the payments can be allocated to the correct accounts).
Over the Counter payments
Payments can be made at any of Far North District Council's Service Center's or I-site's during normal the advertised operational hours. Payments can be made by cash, eftpos, cheque and credit card.

In Person at New Zealand Post (Rates and Water accounts only)
Customers can go into any NZ Post Shop and pay Rates and Water accounts over the counter by cash, cheque or EFTPOS (no credit card). They must present their rates invoice as it is required for scanning. Customers have the option to pay the full amount or make a part payment. Note that with part payments, customers must keep the invoice for future payments, as it will need to be scanned every time a payment is made.

International Transfers of Money
Give the Far North District Council bank account number, 12-3244-0022509-00, ASB Bank, Corporate Branch, Auckland to your bank. With this information the banks can do a telegraphic transfers.
Foreign cheques are also accepted.
