Setting up a Direct Debit Agreement

Access a direct debit form by:

Complete it, sign it and either drop it back to a council or post it in the freepost envelope provided.

A letter will be sent out when the application has been processed advising the amount to be direct debited and the starting date.

If the payments will clear the rates by the 30th June no penalties will be added to the account.

Payments Holiday (Suspension) or Missed Payments

If a direct debit payment holiday is required, council will need to contacted at least two days before the due date with the details to allow time to process.

If a direct debit payment has been missed, then the bank will advise council of the dishonour. A letter will be sent confirming/advising that the payment has been dishonoured.

A penalty may be charged if the account is not paid by the due date. 

Amendments to Direct Debits

Sale of properties - Transferring direct debits

Direct debit agreements are property-specific and cannot be transferred to other properties.

When a property is sold the existing direct debit will need to be cancelled. Contact council to do this. 

Changes to the amount, date or bank account

A new form needs to be completed each time there is a change to the bank account, whether it is a complete change of account,  date of direct debit payment, frequency, a suffix, or the closing of an account. Contact council with the new details, and a new form will be sent out to be signed and returned in the freepost envelope provided

Cancelling direct debit agreements

Two days notice must be given when canceling a direct debit. The bank will also need to be advised. Call council and we can arrange to send out a cancellation form.
