Property Files - General Records and Archives
Our property files can have a lot of information useful to you if you are considering buying a property, building a house or making other changes to a property. They can be seen by arrangement.
Where broader and more detailed information is wanted, then a Land Information Memorandum LIM is recommended.
Aerial Photography
This is available and covers the whole district. It is a great advantage when matching landmarks like fences and roads to other mapped records you may have. For more details, go to Aerial Photography
Plans
Plans of physical services - water, sewerage etc are useful for locating services. House plans and subdivision plans provide detailed property information.
Land Information Memorandum (LIM)
If you are considering buying a property in the Far North District, you’re advised to obtain a Land Information Memorandum LIM and check council files to compare buildings and structures on site e.g. decks, conservatories, spa pools and free standing fires, with what is shown in the council property file to determine if all existing buildings and structures are approved.
LIM forms are available from any Customer Service centre or on this website. There are fees payable for the preparation of a LIM.
Urban Numbering and Rapid Numbering
Street Numbering and Rapid Numbering help the community by making property location more efficient. This helps fire and ambulance services respond efficiently and helps with accurate delivery of mail.
Property Valuations
Property Valuations and periodic revaluations are an important part of establishing rates. The values are established by an external organisation as good practice. Enquiries about their process can be made to Quotable Value NZ Ltd.
Requests for Information
Information requests can be made verbally or in writing. An everyday request for information may be processed immediately and the information supplied directly to the requester. A request made under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987 (LGOIMA) should be made in writing to the Legal Executive Officer. Under LGOIMA an information request is normally required to be processed within 20 working days after the day on which the request is received by Council. Council is entitled, under LGOIMA to charge for the supply of official information.
