District Stormwater Network
District Council provides a publicly reticulated stormwater system within urban areas throughout the district to prevent flooding and to ensure that the health, welfare and safety of both the environment and its people are protected from any detrimental effects.
Urban Drainage
This is drainage located within the following areas: -
Northern Ward:
- Houhora / Pukenui
- Awanui
- Ahipara
- Kaitaia
- Whatuwhiwhi
- Tokerau Beach
- Rangiputa
- Kaimaumau
- Coopers Beach
- Taipa, Mangonui
- Cable Bay
- Hihi
Eastern Ward:- Taupo Bay, Tauranga Bay, Whangaroa / Kaeo, Kerikeri, Haruru Falls, Paihia, Te Haumi, Opua, Veronica Point, Russell, Tapeka Point, Kawakawa, Moerewa
Western Ward:- Kaikohe, Okaihau, Ngawha Springs, Rawene, Kohukohu, Opononi / Omapere
Rural Drainage
This covers all other areas within the district which are not listed above.
Consented Discharge
Where Council has approval from the Northland Regional Council (NRC) to operate and discharge public reticulated stormwater runoff to land or water.
Unconsented Discharge
Where Council does not require consent from NRC to discharge publicly reticulated stormwater runoff to land or water.
Public Reticulation
Collects and conveys stormwater from roads and developed areas through a network of pipes and open drains to an outfall. This currently consists of the following assets: -
Private Reticulation
Collects stormwater onsite and directs it to the public reticulated system or onsite disposal. The responsibility for maintenance of these systems is the landowners.
Outfall
Where the public or private stormwater discharges to land or water.
Land Drainage Districts
A designated land drainage area of which certain drains are identified
Northern Ward:- Kaitaia, Waiharara, Kaikino, Motutangi
Eastern Ward:- Nil
Western Ward: - Nil
General Land Drainage
All rural drains that are not identified as part of a Land Drainage District.
