Sustainability

New Zealanders are proud of our clean green image and committed to living in this environment in a way that meets our needs – now & in the future. Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of us now without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.

There are many different activities that affect our environment, and impact on sustainability. Things like reducing waste, being energy efficient & reducing greenhouse gases are all ways that help. There are many simple, inexpensive things you can do to live more sustainably and help create a better environment for all of us. For ideas visit http://www.mfe.govt.nz/withyou/do/index.html for tips on what you can do to help improve our environment.

The Far North District Council is supporting Sustainability in our community by expanding its education activities to include a broader range of sustainability issues. These activities include Waste Minimisation, Water Conservation, Septic Tank management & other topics.
