General Information
Service Locations
If you require an approximate location of where a Council sewerage line is you can contact us and we can post, email or fax you a plan if we have one available. If you require the Council service line to be exposed, we can organise this for you through our contractors, but there will be a charge for this.
If you need to find the location of the sewerage line within your property you will need to engage a plumber or drain layer at your cost. In some instances there may be a plan on your property file showing the route of the pipe when it was installed, sometimes known as an as-built or as-laid. There may be a minimal photocopying charge for any copies requested. The Council holds the data for information purposes and in no way guarantees either the accuracy or completeness of it.
Services should be clearly identified on each site prior to the commencement of any works to avoid any damage to service pipes.
Blocked Pipes
The cost of clearing blocked pipes on private property is the responsibility of the landowner. Should you have a blockage you can contact us and we will send out our contractor (Transfield) to look at the problem. If the blockage is found to be in the Council line Transfield will complete the necessary repairs at no cost.
If the blockage is on the private connection while Transfield are on site you may be able to engage them to also complete the repairs, but there will be a charge and you will need to arrange and agree to any costs they may charge. Alternatively, you can phone your own plumber and arrange the repairs at your own cost.
Sewerage Connections
If your property is within 30 meters of a Council sewerage service main line, it is within what is known as an Area of Benefit (AOB) and may be granted permission to connect. Properties outside an Area of Benefit may also apply to connect, but may be declined if there is an insufficient capacity to service the property. If an application from outside the AOB is declined, an on-site wastewater disposal system must be installed to service the structure.
An Application to Connect form must be lodged with your Building Consent application and this will be assessed for where the connection is to be made into Councils’ line and any associated fees or charges may be charged.
Some applications may also have Development Contributions payable. All application fees, installation costs and applicable Development Contributions must be paid in full prior to any connections being made.
Any sewerage connection will also need to have a Building Consent both applied for and granted prior to the commencement of any works. If you have any queries regarding what works need a Building Consent please contact us.
