The Council invites you to contribute to the Working Draft Engineering Standards(PDF, 10MB). The best way to do this is to provide your feedback using our online survey.

The working draft is a significant update of the 2009 Engineering Standards. It has been developed from the Whangarei District Council Engineering Standards together with other changes tailored with respect to the Far North. It should be review in conjunction with the review guidelines(PDF, 129KB), which outlines items Council has identified and is working on.

Give feedback on draft

The Engineering Standards will be incorporated, by reference, in the proposed District Plan (to be notified later in 2021). Making available a working draft allows for us to optimise the integration of the technical document with the new District Plan provisions.

A future step is the public notification of the Engineering Standards as ‘material to be incorporated by reference’ in the proposed District Plan. This step is in accordance with the provisions of Clause 35 of Schedule 1 of the Resource Management Act 1991 prior to the statutory notification of the proposed District Plan. At this point we will invite comments on the final draft version of the Engineering Standards.

The revised engineering standards will provide greater confidence to the community and development industry methods that will contribute to well-functioning urban and rural environments. Council values feedback that will contribute to the successful implementation of the new Far North District Council Engineering Standards.
