Ōhaeawai Community Education Trust (OCET) would like to lease land from Council that is part of a recreation reserve in Ōkaihau. Council wants to hear from the community before proceeding.

The land at 3 Michie Street, Ōkaihau was previously occupied by the New Zealand Playcentre Association (NZPA). NZPA owns a building that remains onsite where they operated Ōkaihau Playcentre.

OCET would like to lease the site in order to operate an early childhood centre. They are in negotiations to purchase the NZPA-owned building that remains onsite. OCET plan to upgrade the vacant building to the Ministry of Education standards for the early childhood centre.

OCET will be responsible for the cost of the building upgrade and any maintenance. Lease negotiations will be subject to the existing building gaining a Building Code of Compliance.
