Christmas parade and Northland performers win funding
Three community groups are celebrating after the Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community Board granted them a share of more than $10,000 in funding during its November meeting.

Three community groups are celebrating after the Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community Board granted them a share of more than $10,000 in funding during its November meeting.
A total of $5000 was granted towards a community Christmas event in Russell on 10 December. The parade will proceed from Harautu Museum carpark along York Street, up Cass Street, and along The Strand waterfront, before doing a figure eight and heading to Long Beach for a family beach party.
Friends of Northland Dance was granted $2500 towards the cost of costumes for Alice in Wonderland, a musical theatre/ dance production performed by Northland youth. The show is a chance for young dancers to demonstrate onstage the talents and skills they have learned throughout the year for whanāu, friends, and the public. The production involves more than 100 performers aged 4-18 years, approximately 20 volunteers, and five qualified dance and theatrical professionals.
The Turner Centre was granted $2900 towards the cost of commissioning an artist to write a piece of music telling a local story, which will be workshopped and performed as part of a free concert in the Turner Centre John Dalton Auditorium on Wednesday 24 January with the New Zealand Secondary Schools Choir.
The next Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community Board meeting will be held on Thursday 14 December at the Turner Centre. It can be watched live on Facebook and YouTube from 10am.
