Motor racing fans flocked to the Far North over the weekend to witness the Copthorne Bay of Islands Far North Rally. It was the first time the event had been held in two years after Covid-19 lockdowns saw it cancelled in 2020 and 2021.

Service pit stops at Kāeo, Taipā and Mangamuka enabled fans to see the cars and crews close-up, while a 60-minute lunch break at Te Ahu in Kaitaia, sponsored by the council, gave enthusiasts a longer opportunity to check out the high-spec rally cars.

The race got under way at the Williams Street Carpark in Paihia at 7am on Saturday, with the first car arriving back at the Copthorne Hotel and Resort in Waitangi at approximately 4.25pm.

The Top 10 drivers in the event were:

1: Shane van Gisbergen
2: Dylan Turner
3: Todd Bawden
4: Kingsley Jones
5: David Sievers
6: Stephen Barker
7: Jay Sharp
8: Charlie Evans
9: Brian Green
10: Daniel Haines

Congratulations to all those drivers who took part and the many spectators who helped make the day such a success.  You can read more about the event here.
