Council decision-making livestreamed

Council, community board and committee meetings conducted in Chambers at the council’s Kaikohe Headquarters are now being livestreamed to both Facebook Live and YouTube.

Council, community board and committee meetings conducted in Chambers at the council’s Kaikohe Headquarters are now being livestreamed to both Facebook Live and YouTube.

The first committee meeting going live on Facebook was Te Kuaka – Te Ao Māori Committee on Tuesday 8 August. The livestreams include a ticker on the lower third of the screen informing viewers of the agenda item under discussion and allows social media viewers to comment via the council’s Facebook page or react with emojis.

Livestreaming brings council meetings straight to the community, extending its reach across our large district. It allows ratepayers to view elected members at work in real time while eliminating location and time barriers.

One of the key benefits of livestreaming is greater public access to council decision-making and debate, which enhances transparency and openness and allows greater community engagement.

To follow the council’s Facebook page, click here or head to our YouTube channel. The council’s full meetings schedule can be found here.
