Council seeks feedback on walking and cycling routes

The council and Northland Transportation Alliance are asking the public to help shape the district’s network of cycle trails and walkways by taking an online survey and adding their ideas to an online map of trails.

The council wants to make sure it has captured preferred cycle and walking routes and to include these in its Far North Trails Plan. The plan aims to identify, develop and improve recreational cycling and walking networks to help enhance the health of Far North communities, provide more options for tourists and to boost the local economy.

Another aim of the feedback is to confirm that the council is heading in the right direction to achieve the Northland Walking and Cycling Strategy regional vision “To be one of the world’s best coastal walking and cycling destinations where the journeys and stories are as impressive and memorable as the scenery”.

Participants can add their contributions by taking a five-minute survey detailing how they currently use walking and cycling trails. They can also comment on proposed routes via an interactive online map of cycle and walking routes. The proposed routes were provided by strategic documents, and community and stakeholder groups. Participants can also use the map to suggest completely new routes.

The survey is now open and can be accessed at the council’s Have your say webpage.

Feedback on the Far North Trails Plan closes on Wednesday 3 May.
