FNDC manager takes top job at Kāpiti Coast District Council

Far North District Council will farewell one of its top managers in September when he takes up a new role as Chief Executive of Kāpiti Coast District Council.

Darren Edwards has over 30 years’ public sector experience in central and local government and was appointed General Manager – Strategic, Planning and Policy with Far North District Council (FNDC) in May 2021.

Mr Edwards was already well known to the Far North and the council having spent five years in senior leadership roles with FNDC, including as Manager – Environmental Services, Chief Information Officer, and General Manager (Acting) – Environmental, Community and Customer Services. He returned to the Far North after spending just over a year as Group Manager – Environmental Management and Planning with Invercargill City Council. 

FNDC CEO Blair King says Mr Edwards has played a key role on the council’s Strategic Leadership Team while General Manager, making a huge contribution to the organisation and the district.

“Darren is a proven leader who has extensive knowledge of our organisation and our communities. We’ll miss his insights and input, but he is ready for a new challenge and we wish him well.”

Mr Edwards will leave FNDC on 30 September and take up his new position with Kāpiti Coast District Council on Monday 10 October 2022.
