Far North District Council has been recognised as a leader in Future of Work by Human Resources New Zealand (HRNZ) for its Creating and Enabling Great Workplaces initiative, that established a distributed working model with hybrid remote and office-based working.

A wellbeing check during the first 2020 COVID-19 lockdown led to changing the entire operating model – moving from a heavy commuter and highly office-based organisation to a hybrid, smart and digitally enabled workforce where employees choose the workplace that fits their personal and domestic circumstances.

The Council was also recognised among top employers in Government, education and NFP (Not-for-profit) in all of Australia and New Zealand, taking second spot in the 2022 AFR BOSS Best Places to Work list.
