Great Library Road Trip kicks off

Tamariki can jump on the Great Library Road Trip this Monday (12 December) when the free reading challenge kicks off for the summer holidays.

The programme, which runs for six weeks over the summer holidays, aims to get kids to library events where there will be a focus on reading challenges. The ‘road trip’ will run in all six council libraries and includes a road trip checklist of fun library activities with reading challenges along the way.

There are 14 challenges including reading an eBook, a graphic novel, and a book from the library’s te reo Māori collection.

Different programmes and events will be run across all six libraries to give young readers the opportunity to tick challenges off their checklist. 

Highlights of the Great Library Road Trip to watch out for include virtual reality headset sessions, arts, and craft, and Lego challenges.

The Procter Library will also have its maker space open throughout the holidays. The maker space includes a 3-D printer, a Cricut machine that can cut several different materials including paper, vinyl and cardstock, virtual reality headsets, robotics kit, sewing machines, creative software on Mac computers, a badge maker and abundant art and craft supplies.
