Have your say on the future of Kerikeri and Waipapa

Love Kerikeri's river walks, but concerned about housing on horticultural land? Want to improve access to our beautiful coastline and see traffic flows improved through town? The council wants to know what you think will make Kerikeri and Waipapa an even greater place to live.

Love Kerikeri's river walks, but concerned about housing on horticultural land? Want to improve access to our beautiful coastline and see traffic flows improved through town? Let us know what you think will make Kerikeri and Waipapa an even greater place to live.

Public engagement is now open on a spatial plan for the area, which was gifted the name Te Pātukurea by local hapū, to guide how land and development will be managed over the next 30 years in Kerikeri and Waipapa.

Council CEO, Guy Holroyd says that with more than 22,000 people expected to call Kerikeri-Waipapa home by 2051, the council needs to act and plan now.

“We want Kerikeri-Waipapa to grow in a way that reflects our culture and considers the wellbeing of our people, our local economy and our environment.

“By understanding our community’s aspirations, and underpinning this with in-depth evidence and analysis, we’ll be able to identify opportunities for growth as well as where and how the council invests resources.”

Mr Holroyd says working with the community is an important part of the journey to help shape how the council makes decisions about what matters to the people of Kerikeri-Waipapa.

“That includes what the area will look and feel like, where we can live, work and play, how we get to where we need to go, what infrastructure we need, how we care for our environment and what we can do to tackle climate change.

“Te Pātukurea will be a plan for everyone. That’s why we’re encouraging everyone in our district to have their say and shape how our district develops over the next 30 years,” he says.

The public engagement period will run from 6 November to 4 December 2023.
