Published on 31 May 2023
Maintenance work has been completed on the Hokianga Harbour vehicle ferry with the vessel now back in the water and due to return to normal service from tomorrow Thursday 1 June as planned.
Its first sailing will be at 1.30pm from Rāwene and will operate to the normal timetable. A passenger-only ferry service has operated on the Hokianga Harbour while maintenance on the vehicle ferry was carried out. The passenger ferry will continue running until 5.30pm tomorrow to ensure all foot passengers from the morning departures are returned to Kohukohu township and to their vehicles.
The 145-tonne Kohu Ra Tuarua vehicle ferry, which operates between Rāwene and Kohukohu, was pulled into dry dock at the Narrows Wharf in Kohukohu on 1 May.
The out of water survey and maintenance included refurbishment and repairs of the two main hydraulic ramps, as well as major painting works on the hull, bulwarks, deck, and all tanks on board.
