Ideas sought to redesign Paihia waterfront

Far North residents are invited to submit their ideas for improving the Paihia waterfront. These will be used in community design workshops in January.

Ideas for improving the waterfront in Paihia are being sought from Far North residents from today until Friday 13 January 2023. The ideas will feed into community workshops focusing on projects that will strengthen community co-development skills.

Specifically, the areas residents are being asked to have their say on are Horotutu-Our Place (the green space near Paihia Wharf) and the Bluff, which overlooks Paihia.

Community design workshops are scheduled to run at Waitangi Treaty Grounds on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 January, the weekend after submissions close. They will be facilitated by David Engwicht, a well-known ‘place maker’ who lectures worldwide on issues of transportation, community, and creativity.

A final design for Horotutu will be completed as a result of the workshops. Further consultation with local hapū will be undertaken prior to a design for the Bluff being completed.

You can submit your ideas online via this link or deliver written submissions to any council service centre.
