Kerikeri Road temporarily closes for cycle race

There will be two road closures this Friday and Sunday in Kerikeri for the 2023 BDO Tour of Northland cycle race.

There will be two road closures this Friday and Sunday in Kerikeri for the 2023 BDO Tour of Northland cycle race.

The BDO Tour of Northland has been running since 2003 but it is the first time the course will include Kerikeri. On Friday 17 March (day two) of the tour, cyclists will start in Paihia and finish in Kerikeri. This will mean that the south bound lane of Kerikeri Road going into the town from the Heritage bypass will be closed for approximately two hours.  A detour will be in place via Hone Heke Road.

On Sunday 19 March, the fourth and final day of the race will see cyclists starting from Kerikeri Domain as they head to Whangarei. Cobham Road will be closed starting from Hobson Ave. This will be a full closure from 7.30am – 9am. Cyclists will travel up Kerikeri Road in groups with front and rear pilot vehicles. Only this lane will be affected. Traffic travelling out of Kerikeri towards the roundabout and Bay of Islands Airport may be delayed.

The cycle race will continue past the airport on Wiroa Road where normal road rules will apply. Cyclists are expected to pass the airport between 8am – 9am on the morning of Sunday 19 March.

More information about the event is available online and on Facebook.
