Construction barriers at Memorial Park will come down on Friday (23 December) giving Kaikohe tamariki access to new playground equipment over the summer holidays.
The new playground is part of a $750,000 upgrade to Memorial Park that will include a wheelchair accessible merry-go-round, in-ground trampolines, slides, a sand play area, swings, and an eagles’ lair rope climbing tower. New Park entrances, upgraded footpaths, a learn-to-ride and balance bike track, fully accessible amenity block and a wide loop track linking all areas are also part of the revamp.
Unfortunately, supply chain disruptions have meant that key parts of the new playground could not be completed ahead of Christmas. Samba drums and the eagles’ lair rope climbing tower will be added in the new year.
Once this equipment has been installed, a permanent rubberised safety surface will be laid, and barbeques, toilets and connecting pathways will be completed.
A grand opening for the Memorial Park upgrade will now likely be held in March 2023.
