Night rehab work for Kerikeri Road

Following discussions with Northland Transportation Alliance, roading contractors will resurface a section of Kerikeri Road after agreeing that work undertaken last year does not meet quality standards.

Following discussions with Northland Transportation Alliance, roading contractors will resurface a section of Kerikeri Road after agreeing that work undertaken last year does not meet quality standards.

The resurfacing work to renew the road surface will be undertaken over two nights next week outside Makana Confections and The Old Packhouse Market at the contractor’s expense.

Ventia and its surfacing subcontractor have been in discussions with Northland Transportation Alliance (NTA) since the work was completed last year after it became apparent that the road surface did not meet required roughness quality standards. Many motorists would have noticed that the new tarmac was not even. While the defect is not considered a safety issue, it could cause premature road deterioration.

The remedial work, known as mill and fill, will take place at night between 7pm and 5am on 13 and 14 November between the intersection with State Highway 10 and Maraenui Road. One lane will be closed to allow the work to be done, while the other remains open to two-way traffic under stop/go traffic management.

Speed will be reduced to 30km/h while night works are underway. The road will be open to two-way traffic during the day with a temporary speed restriction of 50km/h through the work site. Businesses and residents affected by the work have been notified by letter.

NTA is a collaboration between the Kaipara, Whangārei, and Far North district councils, Northland Regional Council and Waka Kotahi. The alliance combines staff, services, and resources for roading and transportation across Northland to improve services for all the region’s road users.
