Council Libraries have not charged fines for children and teens for the past two years. Book borrowing grew by 74% for that age group within a year of the change.
Moving to fines free for all library members will remove a disincentive for some and it is anticipated this will encourage more users to borrow books. Going fines free is part of a nationwide public Libraries’ initiative.
Far North District Council operates six libraries and one mobile library van in the Far North. It is free to become a member for all Far North Council Libraries.
