Paihia Beach clean up coming
A clean up of beach debris washed up in Paihia during recent storms is planned for mid September.
Sizeable logs and other beach debris washed up along the Paihia coastline during recent heavy rain events will be cleared away soon by council contractors.
A number of residents have alerted Council to the problem and staff are working with the Department of Conservation to ensure removal of debris will not disturb bird nesting sites, as required by the resource consent that will enable the work to go ahead.
The beach clean up is planned for mid September, when the risk of storms has abated. The wood debris, which is water logged and contaminated with salt, will be taken to landfill.
