Reseal to temporarily close Rangitoto Boat Ramp

The boat ramp at the end of Kerikeri Inlet Road will close for two days next week for resealing work which marks the final phase of the Rangitoto Boat Ramp upgrade project.

The Rangitoto Boat Ramp will be closed temporarily from Monday 5 December so the car park can be resealed ahead of the peak summer season. Work at the boat ramp, also known as Windsor Landing, is programmed over two days next week but will be weather dependent.

The boat ramp at the end of Kerikeri Inlet Road was opened in May 2021 after a new road was constructed to provide public access to an existing jetty and floating pontoon. Sealed parking for 18 boat trailers and seven cars was also constructed and the boat ramp was re-surfaced.

It is best practice to apply a second chip seal coat within 12 months of a new surface being constructed. This will prolong the life of the parking area and this work marks the final phase of the Rangitoto Boat Ramp upgrade project.

The parking area reseal comes on the heels of recently completed work to seal the final stretch of Kerikeri Inlet Road from the junction of Edmonds Road to the boat ramp. The new road surface will reduce noise and dust nuisance which has increased as more boaties have accessed the Rangitoto Boat Ramp.

The original boat ramp was built by a private developer in the 1990s and was acquired by Far North District Council after the developer abandoned the project. The ramp is about 10km east of the Kerikeri town centre and is the only public boat access on the south side of Kerikeri Inlet.

You can find out more about boat ramp facilities throughout the Far North on the council’s Maritime Facilities in the Far North webpage which includes an interactive map. Information on the number of designated trailer-only parks available as well as car parking spaces and ramp capacity is listed there.
