Still time to make your vote count

There is still time to get your voting papers off your kitchen bench and in the post - but after today (4 October) you'll need to pop your vote in a ballot box at one of our service centres. Voting closes midday Saturday 8 October.

The message is clear – today is your last chance to send your vote in the post before the local election closes at midday Saturday 8 October.

Voting is open for another five days, but from tomorrow (Wednesday 5 October) anyone wanting their vote to count must deliver it in person to a ballot box at a council service centre. Far North voters who miss the postal deadline will find secure ballot boxes available during office hours at Te Ahu in Kaitāia, the John Butler Centre in Kerikeri, Council headquarters in Kaikohe, as well as Kāeo, Kawakawa and Rāwene service centres.

On Saturday 8 October, ballot boxes will only be available at Te Ahu in Kaitāia, the John Butler Centre in Kerikeri and Council headquarters in Kaikohe, from 8am through to midday when voting closes.

Voters who have not received their voting packs, or who are not enrolled, can still have their say by casting a special vote at Kaitāia, Kaikohe or Kerikeri service centres. Those not enrolled to vote, or who need to update their voting details can do so by going to vote.co.nz before casting their special vote.

Far North District Council Manager – District Administration, Caroline Wilson, says Far North voters still have time to make their vote count. “A mobile ballot box is travelling around the Far North to help those living remotely to cast their vote. This Wednesday (5 October) the van and ballot box will travel to Hōreke, Mangamuka and Panguru, and on Thursday (6 October) to Tōwai and Russell.” For exact timings and location details go here.

As of Monday this week only 17.6 per cent of eligible voters had cast their votes, which is almost 10 percent less than the voting turn out at the same time in the 2019 local election.
