Temporary road closures for classic car event

Cruz'n the Bayz classic car and motorbike touring event starts on Friday 28 April and promises to be a crowd pleaser with live music, competitions and other fun activities. Temporary road closures are required in Kerikeri. Find out more here.

Northland's first classic car and motorbike event to be held in multiple locations over three days will run from Friday 28 to Sunday 30 April. The classic, hot rod, muscle car and motorbike event will visit Waitangi, Ōpua, Kawakawa, Moerewa, Kaikohe, Paihia, Whangaroa, Kāeo, Kerikeri and Russell and will require temporary road closures in Kerikeri.

The rock 'n roll themed event has been likened to Whangamata’s Beach Hop. But unlike the Beach Hop, Cruz’n the Bayz will go on tour, stopping in different towns each day so spectators can view the vehicles while enjoying local entertainment and refreshments. The road show will run from 8.30am to early evening daily, with over 150 cars expected to take part.

Cruz’n the Bayz is free to spectators and promises to be a fun weekend with a line-up that includes live music, a BBQ competition, an outdoor movie and a kids’ zone. There will also be town raffles and bucket collections to raise funds for St John Ambulance Services.

A highlight of the rolling event will be a visit to Kerikeri. This will see Kerikeri Road closed on Saturday 29 April from 11am to 4pm from the Hobson Ave roundabout to the Fairway Drive intersection. Homestead Road will also be closed, but access to Fairway Drive and Bay of Islands Golf Course will be available via stop/go traffic management set up at the intersection of Kerikeri Road and Fairway Drive.

Organised by National Street Rod Association Northland, there is a $120 registration fee for vehicle owners wishing to participate. More information, including an event programme, is available on the Cruz’n the Bayz webpage.

Cruz’n the Bayz is supported by local community boards: $6,417 was provided by the Bay of Islands-Whangaroa board; and $3,277 from the Kaikohe-Hokianga board.
