Water break in Kerikeri

07 February 2020, 12:00 PM

**UPDATE Mon 3 Feb**

Contractors have repaired the broken water main, but have now discovered a second break. This is possibly due to soils drying and shrinking, and tearing pipes apart. This second break will be repaired today and the lines flushed. We appreciate the extra efforts you have made to conserve water, and ask that you continue to do so for the rest of today (Monday). Thank you.

Water main break in Kerikeri

We are asking Kerikeri to reduce water consumption now while we work to repair a broken Kerikeri Irrigation Company raw water main feeding the town’s treatment plant. This break has significantly reduced our capacity to treat water and meet demand. We estimate it will take at least 24 hours to make repairs and clear lines. We are diverting bulk water carriers to other supplies, but also need Kerikeri businesses and households to reduce water consumption immediately. Please defer the use of hoses and sprinklers and any other significant water use for at least 48 hours. We will keep you updated on repair progress. Please go to bewaterwise.org.nz for simple tips on how you can save water today.
