We maintain a range of facilities for Far North residents and visitors, including playgrounds, sports fields, swimming pools, walkways and reserves. We also own and maintain toilets, wharves and pontoons, cemeteries, libraries, community halls and housing for the elderly.

On 28 October 2025, Aotearoa marks the 190th anniversary of He Whakaputanga, the Declaration of Independence signed by rangatira on behalf of iwi in the Far North. Rāniera Kaio from Te Rūnanga o Whaingaroa explains why He Whakaputanga is valued above Te Tiriti among some Whangaroa iwi, and how the United Tribes of New Zealand flag came to be.
