National Policy Statement on Urban Development 2020 Car Parking Requirements

Section 55 Resource Management Act 1991

The Far North District Council has amended its District Plans to remove minimum parking requirements as directed by the National Policy Statement on Urban Development 2020 (NPS-UD).

As a Tier 3 urban authority, Policy 11 and cl 3.38 of the NPS-UD directs that the Far North District Council must remove all parts of objectives, policies, rules and assessment criteria that that have the effect of requiring a minimum number of car parking spaces for development. This excludes accessible car parks which remain.

In order to implement this requirement, Council has removed or amended provisions directing minimum car parking requirements in both the Operative and Proposed District Plans.

The NPS-UD directs that the amendments set out above are made without using the process set out in Schedule 1 of the Resource Management Act. This means that there is no public consultation or submission process.
