Free, fun, whānau event with Amazing Race and prizes

Council staff are taking part in a community event designed to uplift young people and whānau on Friday 23 May, from 3pm to 6pm, at Memorial Park and the Kaikohe District War Memorial Hall.

The Empowering our Tamariki event is structured like an ‘Amazing Race’, with tamariki completing five fun challenges at different stalls to collect stamps. Once their card is full of stamps, tamariki can enter the draw for a grand prize.

All stalls will offer free kai, snacks, and spot prizes, with no money changing hands to ensure the event is accessible and welcoming for all families.

The council will also have a stall at the event to support community engagement and promote civic education ahead of this year’s local government elections. The team has an activity designed to teach tamariki about democracy in a fun and age-appropriate way.

The council’s stall activity will be one of the stations tamariki need to complete to go into the draw for the grand prize.

You can read more about the event on the Kaikohe-Hokianga Community Board Facebook page.
