Six-week construction for Kerikeri Domain footpath widening
Construction of a wider footpath around the perimeter of Kerikeri Domain starts on Monday 13 February (weather permitting) and will be wide enough for two-way pedestrian traffic and use by motorised wheelchairs.
Widening of the footpath that loops the perimeter of Kerikeri Domain is due to start on Monday 13 February and – weather permitting – is expected to take six weeks.
The new 2.5 metre-wide concrete path will be wide enough to enable two-way pedestrian traffic, use by motorised wheelchairs, and access to park facilities.
Public access to the playground, skatepark, library and domain sports fields will be unaffected during the work, which will include demolishing the existing path which encircles the domain.
Work will be undertaken in four stages within fenced zones. It will begin next to the Returned and Services’ Association (RSA) memorial wall outside the Procter Library and end outside the Kerikeri Bowls Club.
Construction vehicles will access the domain through the bowls club carpark on Cobham Road while the old path and topsoil are removed and the new path is laid. The club carpark will remain open as usual, including for club use on Tuesday mornings. During busy times, construction vehicles will be marshalled through the carpark by contract staff.
Other works during the footpath construction include removal of the old playground infrastructure and turf mounds to improve community safety.
