Far North residents and ratepayers enrolled to vote in the local body elections will begin receiving their voting packs in the mail from today, Friday 16 September.

Voting packs will include brief profiles of all candidates standing for election to Far North District Council, plus voting papers and information on candidates standing for Northland Regional Council.

The voting period is for three weeks and closes at noon on Saturday 8 October 2022. Completed postal ballots can be posted to the electoral officer in the pre-paid envelope provided from today. Electors who have not received voting packs by 21 September should contact Election Services on 0800 922 822.

Completed ballots should be in the post by Tuesday 4 October to ensure votes are received before the election closes at midday on Saturday 8 October. Completed voting papers can also be placed in secure ballot boxes located at council service centres during business hours. On Saturday 8 October, the final day of voting, ballot boxes will be available at Te Ahu in Kaitaia, the John Butler Centre in Kerikeri and the council’s Kaikohe headquarters on Memorial Avenue.

An election van will also tour the district with a ‘mobile ballot box’. The aim is to remove barriers to voting for Far North electors in remote communities. To find out where the election van will visit and when, go to the council’s Mobile Ballot Box webpage.

Voters not yet enrolled can still have their say by casting a special vote. To cast a special vote, you must update your details with the Electoral Commission at vote.nz by 5pm Friday 7 October. Special votes can be cast at the council’s Kaitaia, Kerikeri or Kaikohe service centres between 16 September and the close of voting on 8 October at midday.

Preliminary results will be released on Sunday, if available. Final results should be available later that week, once special votes have been confirmed and counted.

Go to www.localelections.co.nz or the council’s Local Elections 2022 webpage for more election information.
