Civil Defence

Civil Defence is the co-ordinated response to an emergency event. It involves multiple agencies including the public to monitor and respond. Councils are legislated to maintain Civil Defence operations under the Civil Defence Emergency Management Act 2002.

During an emergency event

In the event of a civil defence emergency situation you can find the most current information on the Northland Civil Defence Facebook page. We will also have information on the homepage of our website.

Red Cross Hazard App

We recommend you download the Red Cross Hazard App. It's a useful tool to help you and your family prepare for and respond to hazards, to help you get through emergencies and to receive alerts.

Emergency Mobile Alerts

Emergency Mobile Alerts are warning messages sent by authorised emergency agencies to mobile phones. The alerts are designed to keep people safe and are broadcast to all capable phones from targeted cell  towers.

Be prepared

To be prepared for civil defence situations, you can create an emergency plan for your family using an online tool Get Ready. This site also provides resources for the different types of emergency situation we may face.
